PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: May 28, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how NoteMaker ("the App") collects, uses, and protects your information. The App is developed by Oleksandr Marchenko ("we").
Our core principle: your notes belong to you. The developer never has access to the content of your notes. Your notes are stored on your device and, only if you choose, in a private folder of your own Google Drive.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Your Notes (User Content)
Your notes, tags, and related content are stored locally on your device. We, the developer, cannot read them. They leave your device only if you turn on Google Drive backup (see Section 3).
Usage Data
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used (for example, which features are used and how often). We log only counts, flags, and event names — never the content of your notes.
Crash and Performance Data
Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring collect diagnostic data (device model, operating system version, stack traces, and performance metrics) to help us fix problems and improve stability. Your note content is removed from crash reports.
Notifications and Configuration
Firebase Cloud Messaging uses a device token to deliver notifications, and Firebase Remote Config is used to manage app configuration.
Purchase Status
If you buy the optional one-time Premium upgrade, the purchase is processed entirely by Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment details — only a flag on your device indicating that Premium is active.
2. ENCRYPTION AND BIOMETRICS (OPTIONAL)
You may lock individual notes. Locked notes are encrypted on your device using AES-256, with the encryption key held in your device's hardware-backed Android Keystore.
Unlocking uses your device biometrics or screen lock (PIN or password), which are handled entirely by the Android system — the App never receives, stores, or transmits your biometric data or your screen-lock credentials.
If you lose access to your device's encryption key (for example, after a factory reset), locked notes cannot be recovered.
3. GOOGLE DRIVE BACKUP (OPTIONAL, PREMIUM)
If you enable backup, the App requests permission to access only a hidden, app-specific folder in your own Google Drive (the "drive.appdata" scope). This means:
-
The App can ONLY read and write its own backup file in that hidden folder. It CANNOT see, read, or modify any of your other Google Drive files.
-
The App does NOT request access to your name, email address, profile, or any other Google account information.
-
Your backup is a single file ("notemaker_backup.json") stored in your own Drive. It is a one-way snapshot that is overwritten each time you back up.
-
You may enable an optional daily automatic backup.
-
By default, locked (encrypted) notes are NOT included in the backup. They are included only if you explicitly turn on the "Include locked notes" option, which requires a one-time biometric or screen-lock confirmation; in that case those notes are decrypted into your own backup file.
Your backup is stored only in your personal Google Drive, which you control. We never receive a copy of your notes.
4. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
-
To analyze app performance and usage trends (Firebase Analytics and Performance Monitoring).
-
To diagnose and fix crashes (Firebase Crashlytics).
-
To deliver notifications and manage configuration (Firebase Cloud Messaging and Remote Config).
-
To enable optional cloud backup to your own Google Drive (only if you opt in).
-
To unlock Premium features after a purchase made through Google Play.
5. DATA SHARING
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. The App contains no advertising.
We rely on the following service providers, which process data on our behalf
under their own privacy policies:
-
Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring, Cloud Messaging, and Remote Config).
-
Google Play services and Google Play Billing (for purchases, app reviews, and app updates).
For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy:

6. DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
-
Uninstalling the App permanently removes all notes and data stored on your device.
-
To delete your Google Drive backup or revoke the App's access, open your Google Account settings (myaccount.google.com, then Data and privacy, then Third-party apps and services), or delete the backup from your Drive's hidden app data.
-
You can disable backup, automatic backup, and locked-note inclusion at any time in the App's Settings.
7. PERMISSIONS
The App uses the Internet and network-state permissions for backup, analytics, and notifications, and the Vibrate permission for haptic feedback.
8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the email below so we can delete it.
9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
